YES! is a structured, 12-month residential recovery program that was established in 2001 to meet the growing need for services for homeless women in Southern Indiana who have the desire to live without reliance on drugs and alcohol. Residents must complete detoxification and treatment and agree to comply with the guidelines of the program, which include completing an Individual Development Plan to set forth short-term and long-term goals, attending AA/NA meetings, securing a sponsor, following up on referrals for services, submitting to random testing, and securing employment. The ultimate goal of the program is for women to learn to live substance-free and become self-sufficient so that they can exit the YES! program into permanent housing. While in the YES! program, women are provided with food, clothing, and personal care items until they are able to provide for themselves. Residents also have access to counseling, recovery education materials, support groups, peer groups, 24-hour staffing, life skills training, employment counseling, educational opportunities, linkage to community services, assistance with securing permanent housing, and follow-up services. An important component of our program is reunification of mothers with their children. We are a DCS-approved visitation site, and we help mothers learn to become better parents in an effort to regain custody of their children. We encourage overnight visits, and on the weekends, the YWCA is home to several children of YES! women who are working to restore their lives.
